Hüseyin Rauf Orbay
Turkish prominent statesman of first half of XX century - 27 July 1881 - 16 July 1964
He graduated fron Naval Engineering School. He has held various positions of responsibility, working in the US, Germany, England. He took part in the Balkan wars and the First World War as a commander of the cruiser Hamidiye. The lieutenant colonel was appointed commander of the naval forces of Turkey.
He was the head of the Turkish delegation to the conference of Trebizond in 1918. On board the British cruiser "Agamemnon," on the island of Lemnos in October 30, 1918 he signed a Mudros truce. Then Orbay acted as one of the leaders of the Young Turks.
After the victory of Kemal Ataturk as a close associate of his Orbay he was appointed Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey (1922-1923). He was subsequently charged with the opposition and banished from the country for 10 years. He returned in the political arena after coming to power of Ataturk opponents. During the Second World War (1942) was the Turkish ambassador to the UK. Orbaya known for his friendship with the Churchill.
