HOLIDAY IN GLORY of Great Martyr EVSTAFY APSILSKY Today, October 3 Abkhazia celebrate the glory of the martyr Evstafy Apsilsky. Congratulations on this great day to our dear compatriots!
Evstafy Apsilsky - first Abkhaz martyr, the sanctity of which was recognized throughout the Eastern Church and one of the most venerated saints in the territory of modern Abkhazia.
He is considered as protector and patron saint. There is a legend that St. Evstafy raised Church of the Great Martyr Evstafy Placidus in Tsebelda, decorating the altar barrier temple with stone tiles. In Ilori Church of St. George, the icon of Evstafy Apsilsky is stored, where he is depicted as a warrior: in a chiton, armor, leggings and himation.
St. Evstafy was born in family of Apsil ruler named Marin. Ruler baptized child in the ancient temple Tsibilium, calling his son in honor of St. Evstafy Placidus, a valiant warrior, a martyr's crown during the reign of Emperor Trajan.
Evstafy ruled at the beginning of VIII. Apsilia or Tsebelda- this state formation of the Abkhazian tribe Apsils. In the I-II century they occupied a significant part of Colchis to the north.
Memorial Day Saint Great- Evstafy Apsilsky Abkhazian Church celebrates in a single day with the memory of its patron saint Evstafy Placidus, on October 3 on the Gregorian calendar.
