Today, the First President of the Republic of Abkhazia Vladislav Ardzinba would have turned 70 years old

Vladislav Ardzinba - a scientist and a politician who determined the fate of the modern Abhazia. He was a great scientist, a historian, an expert on mythology, culture and history of the ancient peoples of Asia Minor, Hittitology international level. An important place in his scientific activity is engaged in research of the Abkhaz-Adyghe Nart legends.
He led the republic into one of the most difficult periods in the history of Abkhazia and became the founder of modern statehood of Abkhazia.
In 1989, Vladislav Ardzinba was elected deputy of the USSR and the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, where he spent a great deal of work aimed at improving the status of autonomous republics. During the Georgian-Abkhaz war, Ardzinba became chairman of the State Defense Committee and led the national liberation struggle in which the people of Abkhazia won. November 26, 1994 Vladislav Ardzinba was elected president of Abkhazia, and on October 3 1999, he was popularly elected to a second presidential term.
Vladislav Ardzinba died on March 4, 2010.
